If you could help, I'd be grateful. Modifying a quiz by Ridvan Saglam

Mar 06, 2018

I was trying to modify a quiz made by e-learning hero Ridvan Saglam, and I've run into a bug that I just can't solve.

For some reason, whenever a wrong answer is selected, a happy-face graphic (showing how many mistakes the learner has made) shows up when it shouldn't. I've looked at triggers, states, animations, and timeline irregularities and everything seems right.

If someone could figure out the problem, I'd be grateful. I'm using Storyline 2 by the way.

And if you haven't seen Ridvan's original upload, it's here. He does very nice work.

Thank you.

Thank you for getting back to me.

Oddly, I can't get the smiley faces to sync with the rest of the elements on the left sidebar (avatar, progress bar, etc.). I set them up to appear at 2 seconds in an attempt to fix the error. It didn't work.

In this message, I posted the file with the smiley faces synced up with the rest of the elements on that left sidebar. This is what I see: If the learner gets a quiz question correct, then on the next slide everything functions as intended. But, if the learner gets a quiz question wrong, then on the next slide the smiley faces will appear earlier than the rest of the elements on the sidebar.

I guess that means that there is an error on the "Incorrect" slide layer?

Hey Chris! I think I've nailed down the culprit.

Starting on question slide Q1.2, you have three "Change state of the smiley faces when the timeline starts" triggers.

However, the smiley faces aren't supposed to appear until 1.5 seconds. Because of that, you'll want to change the triggers to, "Change state of the smiley faces when the timeline reaches 1.5 seconds."

Be sure to do this on all of the quiz slides.

Give it a try, and let me know if that helps!

Booyah! Everything works now.

It's strange because other items had triggers to start at the beginning of the timeline as well but the smiley faces were coming in earlier than the other elements. But I'll take it.

Thanks a lot! This community is the best.

I've posted the file with everything working just in case anyone wants to adapt it.
