Import final state image of one slide into next slide.

Feb 08, 2018

I wonder if someone can help - i have a slide where learners place items on a graph according to how much they agree with it (based on a political compass), but it isn't recorded in storyline, they are just floating drag & drop articles without a home. I would like to show the learner how they arranged these items on each slide in a final slide, comparing the positioning. I have a fear it may require Javascript.

As ever your input is very welcome.

Hi Again Stephanie.

I have had a play around and find it a very satisfying and neat use of text variables, taught me a lot! What I notice however is that your second slate is effectively a counterfeit of the first, using the information form the placement and making the blank rectangles appear the same as the coloured ones, it's not an actual record of it.. Because my graph is kind of freeform, with assets scattered everywhere, I would need potentially hundreds, or at least dozens of hidden "notes", to utilise this functionality. Or am I wrong?

Hopefully the attached image mock-up demonstrates that I am trying to achieve better than I can explain.

My example allows the user to travel away from the drag an drop slide and the positions of what the user had chosen can be recalled based on their states. If the user returns to the slide and makes changes, those changes would be reflected in the recall slide. It requires specific placement. In your case, this won't work. Remember to make sure that the slide isn't resetting to the initial state to prevent the items from returning to their original locations upon re-visit of the slide or slide layer. You could also consider triggering this slide into a light box from the top menu (or master slide) if there is a need to reference it while working in other parts of the course.

Hi Stephanie, and thank for you for your reply. I have been away from the computer for a few days with flu.

Can you explain a little more about triggering the slide into a lightbox? Currently I am using a slide layer which compares a theoretical "standard placement" of the icons, alongside how the user did it. It works as far as the user experience goes, but is not very sophisticated, or scaleable moving forwards. In some ways I am keen to resolve it simply as it was never my intention to reinvent the wheel! I am just a bit hung up on this functionality.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Amanda. I was referring to the ability to display that slide in its last state (the comparison layer) from another location with the course, that is if navigation is hidden or its otherwise difficult for the user to find their way back to that slide. Not sure if this is even needed but if it is, you could consider adding a menu option to the top of the player that points to this slide and displays it in a light box. (Player  > Features > Add then name the menu choice, choose to Lightbox slide and pick the slide to lightbox).
