Imported Buttons Have Enormous Outlines - Completely Different than Export Source

Mar 05, 2020

Hi there,

I've tried both Ctrl V and the File > Import feature and keep finding that my custom navigation buttons get warped in the process.

Both of the attached screenshots are from slides that were imported in a separate, well-functioning project. After using the Import feature, I found that the outline sizes get blown way out of proportion.

In the first screenshot, you can see that the thickness of the Back button is different on the Hover and Disable state than the Normal state. This is fine and helps the learner distinguish the states whether they are hovering over it or not able to click on it.

But in the second screenshot, you can see that the thickness of the Disabled button is so enormous, that you cannot even see the color and shape of the Shape itself! (You are looking at just an enormous outline that is squeezing the font to a tiny size).

What can I do to fix this?

Hello, are you copying and pasting or importing into a file of the same Story Size?

Sometimes when copy/pasting, importing from one file size to another items will get scaled or change shape.

Also, were the buttons made from buttons or shapes?  Ones made from shapes may behave different for me on copy/paste.

See attached file and copy/paste with these buttons and see how they behave.

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear that your buttons aren't pasting correctly! Based on experience, when I click on a shape/button, I get a dotted line. When I re-click on the edge of the shape, I get a solid line. Copying with a solid line always pastes in the same location where it was located in the previous slide and gives me a better experience.

I also downloaded Jeff's file and was able to copy both the buttons and shapes from slide to slide and from .story to .story successfully without any changes to the design. Are you comfortable with sharing your .story file for testing? You can share it publicly here, or privately with our support engineers. We'll delete it after we take a closer look!
