Importing files

Jan 16, 2013

I have created an eLearning course that I broke down into multiple sections because of the file size.  Now that I have completed all the edits I'm looking for ways to package these files together.

I have attempted to publish one of the Storyline files and insert the file as a flash file; however, the screen turns up blank.  Then I tried importing the Storyline file - I went through the steps, select the slides but no slides actually imported.

Any suggestions or troubleshooting ideas?

Hi Faye,

One of the methods you mentioned, inserting the slides, would be the first thing I would suggest. However, if they're not showing up, there may be a problem. First, make sure you're working with only local files. Try to avoid working with files on any external sources, such as a USB drive or network drive. If you can, try to make sure the files are on your hard drive.

If you've confirmed the files are local, can you tell me what happens when you try to import a slide? Do you see any errors, or scenes? Or is the course just blank?

Thanks!

Hi Faye,

Thanks for the information. When you import the slides are they highlighted in yellow? Also, what option are you choosing for "Insert into scene" at the bottom of the window?

It should look similar to this:

If the slides aren't highlighted, they may not be selected, so they may not be imported. You can try clicking on "Select All" or "None" to clear the selection and click on the slides you'd like to import. You may already be doing this, but I just want to double-check.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

I'm experiencing an almost identical issue as Faye on my end as well. When I attempt to import a .story file I get a blank scene in the target .story - no errors, no messages. Storyline appears to think it has completed the import successfully.

Have tried various combinations  - importing to Current scene or New scene, tried different .story files, tried importing single slide, whole scene or whole Story - nothing imports.  Result is same in every case - a blank scene is created the title of the scene I'm trying to import.

Did you come up with a resolution or a workaround on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Peter. Had just finished installing it and testing when I saw your note. But thank you!

Update 2 didn't solve the problem for me. I'm currently at UPDATE2: 1212.1412. Is this the latest?

If so, do you have any suggestions for how to get .story files to import to another .story?

Since I updated to Update 2,  the symptoms changed slightly. No longer does it create a blank scene. But everything else is the same - no error message, no content gets imported.

PPT works fine.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

OK but I've tried with 6 or 7 and they all fail. I'll attach one for you to look at. It's 14M, hopefully it comes through.

Another thing I've noticed is that no matter what file I select, I get the same listing of .storys, regardless of the story I select. Appears that this is hardcoded somewhere.

In the screenshot below i selected CrossChannel_10.2.story which is in the folder __v10WhatsNew.  However, all of the storys that display in the listing - Overview, Create campaign, etc, don't live in that folder.   And the one I chose - CrossChannel, doesn't appear in the listing so I can't choose a scen or a page from that story.

Hoep this makes sense.

Thanks

Thanks for the file, Rick.

I'm getting some strange behavior with that file as well. Upon selecting it for import, I'm able to see all of your slides, I choose all of them for the import, the import seems to go fine, but the slides never appear in my new course.

My guess is that maybe you had these stored on a network drive at some point and worked on them there. Is that a possibility? If so, that could've caused some corruption

At this point, I'd recommend opening a ticket with our tech team, and they'll be able to assist you further.

Thanks again for sending the file, and best of luck with the project.

Peter,

I'll open a ticket. Thanks for trying.

FYI - the file I sent (and every other file I've tried to import, over a dozen now)  display the exact same behavior and none have ever resided on a network drive - all work has been done on my local hard drive.  Hopefully the tech guys can sort this out.

Appreciate the help.

Rick
