Importing HTML and saving variables with javascript

I'm working on a project where the client has provided the course content as an  HTML file consisting of javascript code that loads individual scenes, mainly static graphics with overlays.  In total there are over 300 individual 'scenes' so rebuilding them in a native Articulate environment is less than appealing.

What i'd like to know is if there is a away of using a persistent variable than can be called by javascript to pick up where the learner last exited the course.  I understand I can use get and setvar to read and write the variable but was looking for guidance on what is considered the best practice for doing this.
