Importing PowerPoint presentation problems

Oct 10, 2016

I have been trying to import a PowerPoint presentation into Articulate Storyline 1 but all I get is the spinning wheel.

Is there a size limit for the ppt ?

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

There isn't a size limit, but you'll want to ensure you're following along with the steps here and also keep in mind these elements when importing in from Powerpoint.  Can you also confirm you're on the latest update of Storyline 1 Update 10 and working on all local project files as detailed here.

If you're still having difficulty we'd be happy to take a look at the Powerpoint file and try importing it ourselves.

Hi Ashley

It should casue issues ? or should it say should not case issues ?

I get to the Reading Powerpoint project then select all slides, this is where the spinning wheel is cotinuous and I have left it for a hour or so with no progress on the progress bar

I am using  Office 2013, If I save as Powerpoint 97-2003 the audio is removed

I have uploaded a Powerpoint with audio recently a couple of months ago without issue !

Hi Wendy

I cant unfortunately as it is company restricted.

Can you please try and upload a Office 2013 ppt with audio and see if yours works ?

Everytime I close Articulate Storyline using task manager, I have to repair my powerpoint office 2013 as nothing opens

I may need to uninstall the Articulate program and re-install

Hi Gary,

Sorry about that - "shouldn't cause issues" and I fixed my typo above.

Did you record the audio in Powerpoint or was it recorded somewhere else and inserted in? Also how large is the file?

You mentioned not being able to share here in the forums, but if you'd like you're welcome to send along to our Support engineers they'll be able to sign an NDA and take a look at it privately.

Also, closing Storyline with the task manager and having to repair Office is certainly unexpected. I'd look at doing a repair of Office and Storyline, and if things continue to misbehave I'd want to have you work with our Support engineers to pull some Windows event logs to further figure out what's occurring on your machine.

Hi Gary,

To repair Storyline 1 you'll want to follow the steps in this article. I also see you started a support case (# 00907524 for my reference) so I'll follow along with that as well.

If you're unable to share the exact file, I'd also be curious to know if you can recreate it on a brand new file - as it's not a behavior I've seen recently. It may be something specific to the file your using and that's why we're always looking to take a look at the exact file.

Hi Ashley

You will see from the support case notes that is an indentified issue with importing ppt with audio into Articulate Storyline 1, something that was identified in Articulate Storyline 2 but has been fixed !

This issue is being looked at by the support team.

The workaround works fine, export the media files from the ppt using 7-zip, delete them from the ppt, import to AS 1, and then attach each media clip to the appropriate slide.

Quick question how much will it cost to move from AS 1 to AS 2 ?

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that and I did check in on your case today and wanted to share this update here as well.

I was unable to replicate the issue that you are encountering, and was able to successfully import the PowerPoint file into Storyline 1. You can download the Storyline project file here: removed

Therefore, to resolve this import issue on your end, please carefully follow the troubleshooting steps in this article to fix unexpected or erratic behavior in Articulate Storyline.

In addition, notice that the Storyline file wasn't able to import the audio in your PowerPoint file. This is a known issue in Storyline 1, and our engineers are aware of this issue, and looking into this issue further.

This issue also occurred in Storyline 2, but is now fixed, please review the article below.

As discussed in the above article, a workaround for this issue is to extract the audio from the PowerPoint file, then import the extracted audio into Storyline. I've used the steps from the said article to extract the audio from PowerPoint file.
