Importing Presenter into Storyline - formatting and layout issues

Aug 29, 2012

Hi all,

Last week I joined a new organisation and have inherited an existing eLearning project.  The current course contains around 23 learning modules that have been created in Articulate Presenter.  The course is hosted in Moodle.  Unfortunately the published Scorm files, created in Presenter, will not write to the gradebook in Moodle.

When I import the Presenter file into Storyline, it writes to the gradebook no problem at all.  But, it also poses a new problem… the format and layout alters quite significantly.

Can anyone tell me how to quickly and efficiently solve the following issues when importing from Articulate Presenter to Articulate Storyline:

Example – a Presenter project consisting of 33 slides.  5 of these slides are unscored Quizmaker quizzes. 11 of these slides are Engage interactions. The last slide is a Quizmaker quiz that is scored and used as a formal assessment (this score transfers to the LMS gradebook).

When I import the example Presenter project (mentioned above) into Storyline, my finished project ends up with 54 slides.

In Storyline, each of the 5 single quiz slides (with a single question on each) ends up being separated into two slides… the second slide giving the option to retry the quiz instead of popping up as it did in the original Presenter project.

The final assessment quiz (consisting of 14 questions) is also turned into separate slides, so instead of being 1 slide in Presenter it ends up being 15 slides in Storyline.

Due to all of the extra slides generated, the left menu changes significantly in the published Scorm Storyline project.  Instead of 33 menu items displaying the topic heading of each slide in order, I end up with around 48 menu items.  Some display the questions in the quizzes, and they are also not in the same order that the presentation is in.

Any tips on how best to tidy this up?  How can I stop the quiz questions turning into separate slides when importing from Presenter to Storyline?   And how do I retain the menu structure from the Articulate Presenter Project in Articulate Storyline?  The topic text on each slide also changes position when importing into Storlyine (this is perhaps minor though).

Regards

Sharon

Thanks Phil and Bruce... I'd explored most options and pretty much came to the conclusion that it would be a rewrite, which you’ve both now confirmed... I was just holding on to faint hopes of that not being the case, given the time frame I'm up against with my inherited project.  In regard to Moodle, I’ve replied to another post re the settings I’ve used, but will repost here as well:

I have set Presenter to publish to Scorm 1.2, and have LMS reporting set to Passed/Incomplete. I've also tried all of the other reporting status options. In Moodle the grade option is set to Highest Grade, with a maximum of 100. Again, I’ve tried all of the other grade options.  I've run the Scorm package with API debugging on and it shows both the cmi.core.lesson_status and cmi.core.score.raw accurately. It really has me stumped.

Looks like I'll be putting in more than just a few hours outside of work then to get this off the ground :(
