Importing quizmaker 13 into Storyline

Jan 29, 2014

I am trying to import soem quizzes built in QuizMaker 13 and import them into Storyline.  I am getting an error that says "This Quiz could not be opened.  It appears to be from a newer version of Quizmaker than Storyline supports."

I am confused as to why Storyline is not compatible with the new version of Articulate Quizmaker.  Can someone help me understand this?

Hi Dawn,

Currently, Articulate Storyline doesn't support importing content from Articulate Presenter '13, Articulate Quizmaker '13, or Articulate Engage '13. We're working to make this feature available in a free update for Storyline.

Storyline does still support content created in Studio '09, however.

If you don't have access to the earlier version of Studio, you could publish your Quizmaker '13 quizzes as standalone quizzes. Upload those quizzes to your web server or LMS, then insert them as web objects in your Storyline project.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Hi Dawn and Joseph,

We can't share a timeline for future releases and updates.  If you would like to be the first to know about updates and product releases, I would encourage you to subscribe to Gabe Anderson's Word of Mouth blog, you can also follow us on Twitterand Facebook.

In addition to those links when new information is available we'll try to update relevant threads such as this one as well.

Ashley,

Let me voice my concerns also.  Our company has purchased Studio 09, Storyline, Articulate Premium subscription and was utilizing the 30 day demo of Studio 13 was we discovered this flaw.  Our company has depended heavily on Articulate for our online training services.  I find it inconceivable that you would roll out Studio 13 without this function.  It is making us rethink our position.  I would suggest that Articulate have its programmers working 24/7 on an interface and import feature into Storyline.  Sorry, but "We can't share a timeline for future releases and updates"  does not cut it!!

How can company release software that their own products do not support? We purchased several licenses of Studio 13 and Storyline. I downloaded the demo to show how the tool worked and began creating quizzes in Quiz maker. When I found out you cannot import, I searched for answers and found it on this posting that it was a version issue. Wow, all that work down the drain. Cancelling our order and moving to Captivate. At least they support their own products.

I have encountered the same problem with Engage '13. My company upgraded through a push automatically in the middle of a big project and it totally wouldn't work. I too wish I knew it was going to cause havok in my courses.

I got it to work by uninstalling '13 and reinstalling '09. It took 2 installations of '09 to get Storyline to recognize Engage, but at least I can continue working on the project without further delays. My plan is to reinstall '13  later when I am finished working on a couple more projects require the same access to Engage.

I share in your frustration to see it's still not resolved. In searching for a fix I found they having been working on an update since at least November.

What the status of importing QuizMaker into Storyline??

I've just been delivered a PowerPoint project that has 10 QuizMaker quizzes embedded that I must migrate into a Storyline based CBT for publishing in our LMS environment and it's simply uncalled for that I would have to rebuild all these quizzes into Storyline because 2 Articulate products don't inter-operate !!!!!!    This will easily be a fatal lack of capabilities that will cause a reevaluation of the CBT landscape if Articulate products do not work together.

Hi Ray,

I unfortunately don't have a timeline to share in regards to adding Quizmaker files into Storyline. I do know a few users who have published the Quizmaker files as a standlone piece and then inserted them as a web object into your Storyline files. You'll need to consider your tracking and reporting needs while setting this up.

I just want to add my complaint to this discussion.  I have over 80 courses built in Presenter 09 all with quizzes built with Quizmaker 09.  I build most of my courses now in Storyline, However, these 80 existing courses do not contain any audio...so when updating them I have kept them in the Presenter/Quizmaker 09 sottware.  However, we upgraded to version 13.  That is when things hit the proverbial fan.  First, I was unable to make any of my hyperlinks to files work in Studio 13.  So my solution was to convert these courses to Storyline.  I thought this was going to be an easy fix...and it did fix the hyperlink issue.  But, little did I know how the quizmaker issues would derail my conversion process.

This has been a huge disappointment.  I am really surprised at this oversight by Articulate.  What an unfortunate decision by Articulate to roll out Studio 13 with so many issues and incompatibality issues with Storyline.  Please think through your possible negative implication in furture upgrades and new versions.  This has caused me to spend much more time on tasks that should have been quick fixes.

While I am in a negative mood, let me add one other item.  I know that there have been several who have expressed problems when trying to search for topics from the Elearning Heroes site.  We get a message that there are no items that match our search criteria.   Aparently this is a random issues that only a few have experiences.  I just wanted to add that I am also one of those who have this happen to them.  I hope this can be resolved, but it looks like there is not a solution at this point.

I do enjoy working with Storyline.  It is a very nice product,  I do wish some of the quirky aspects of it were cleaned up quicker than it seems to happen, but it is a very nice software that is easy to use.  Please double down and fix these glaring issues!!!

Hi Curtis,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've experienced as well, and please know that we've shared all these comments with the rest of our team in regards to the importance of importing from Studio '13 into Storyline.

In the meantime, for your scenario - when you upgrading your files to Studio '13 it created a back up copy of your Studio '09 files in case you ever needed to revert to them. If you are able to access Studio '09 and Storyline on the same computer, you could still import those files as they are.  The other option using the Studio '13 files is to insert them as a web object into Storyline once you've published.

As for the forums, our web team is aware of the search feature working inconsistently - and we have a lot of cool things planned for a future version of the Heroes site (can't wait to share!). In the meantime, you may want to use this method described by Adrian to search - I actually prefer this as I get not just forum posts, but blogs, tutorials, support articles, etc.

Hi D,

I just responded to your earlier post.

If you upgraded from Studio '09 to Studio '13, you can certainly still use the earlier version. All you need is access to your original serial numbers - these were provided (along with download links) with your initial purchase.

If you no longer have access to the serial numbers, you're welcome to reach out to our Customer Care team. You can reach them directly via email at biz@articulate.com, or you can give them a call at 800-861-4880 from 8a-8p EST.

Now, keep in mind that you can switch between the two versions as much as you'd like and you can install and activate on up to two machines. However, you cannot currently install both Studio '09 and Studio '13 on the same machine at the same time.

I hope this information helps!

Christine

Hi team

I was pleased to see that the update to Studio 13 includes being able to publish with uncompressed video. It made me feel like Articulate listened to its community.

But then I downloaded and installed the latest update 6 for Storyline but was surprised to see that the release notes did not include any mention of Storyline importing Quizmaker 13 - and when I tried to do so confirmed that this is still not the case. This is very disappointing when so many folk have pointed out for so long the importance of having this feature and having it promptly to support our learning activities. Is it still on the agenda to be addressed? I feel like I am sitting on my hands waiting for this to happen - very frustrating.

Also, I wonder if a future upgrade to Storyline will also have the very welcome and sensible change of being able to publish with uncompressed video.

Hi Des,

I know that this has been something a few users have shared their frustrations with here, and the import of Studio '13 content into Storyline will be a part of the next version of Storyline as detailed here:

Currently, Articulate Storyline doesn't support importing content directly from Articulate Presenter '13, Articulate Quizmaker '13, or Articulate Engage '13. We're working to make this feature available in a future version of Storyline.

However, you can publish Studio '13 content for web, then embed it in Storyline as a web object. For example, here's how you'd insert an Engage '13 interaction in Storyline.

In regards to the uncompressed video, it's something that I know a few users have commented on liking in Studio '13, and that they would also like to see in Storyline. We don't announce product road maps, but it's worth also sharing your thoughts on that particular feature here in the form of a feature request.

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Georgina,

Currently this is still not a feature of Storyline to import content from Studio '13. We're working to make this feature available in a future version of Storyline. However, you can publish Studio '13 content for web, then embed it in Storyline as a web object. For example, here's how you'd insert an Engage '13 interaction in Storyline.

Thanks for checking in.
