Importing Variables from LRS

Hi everyone,

I know this question was asked years ago in the days of SL1, but I'd love some help. 

How can I import user information from an LRS to use as variable values in a SL3 project? I am working on a suite of courses that need to be tracked separately and I want to be able to use %UserName% and %Department% statements without having to constantly request that information from the user.
