In SL2 object colour changed but slide view shows original colour

Sep 16, 2016

Something strange has happened to 1 object in multiple places in 1 story file. If you view the attached image you can see the bottom object has a purple colour but in the slide view its a light blue/grey. The blue/grey is the desired colour and was set accordingly. The object was copied multiple times (keeping the blue/grey colour) but on recovering the story file from a crash the purple colour now appears when designing and when publishing

What happened?

Hi Ashley,

Yes I'm running on local disk, I haven't changed the object back as i want to be able to trust it won't reoccur again. When I import the slides into a new project the object has the purple colour both in the slides themselves and in the slide view on left. The original file still has the mismatching look seen in the image.

Hi Michael,

If importing it into a new file resolves the issue (in the sense that the colors now match across both locations - although not the original color) it sounds like there may be an element of corruption occurring. You said you were working locally, but did you look into the other items such as file name and path? You did say Storyline crashed as well - do you know if there was something specific you were doing while it crashed? Perhaps that is where the corruption is being introduced?  Were you able to find the file again in your temp files - is that how you recovered it?

How many slide masters do you have in your course? I know I've seen issues before with a lot of slide masters causing issues with the course - so do you  have extra masters in there that you're not using? Any extras I'd look at removing just to  not cause additional issues with the course.

I was in the process of removing excess Slide Masters when Articulate crashed actually so it may be related to the experience you mentioned.

I opened the original file from disk not from the temp directory and Articulate itself said it was a recovered file and to save it to keep the changes

Also I think the colouring is down to the Theme Colors. Are they associated with specific slide masters? Is there a way to see what theme colour is associated with each object or does Articulate swap the 3rd theme color from design 1 with the 3rd colour from design 2?

Hi Michael,

Theme colors will be applied to all the slides that share the same master as detailed here. That article also includes information on which color items match particular objects or sections of the slide items.

If you want to check the temp folder, you can follow these steps to see if there is an earlier version of your project without those corruption elements. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
