Inconsistent Highlighting

Jan 20, 2019

As part of our on-boarding course I've put together an org chart to explain out global structure.  I've added the org chart as the background.  I've inserted a rectangular shape and placed it over the top box on the org chart.  I formatted the shape and selected "Slide background fill".  I copied the shape multiple times, one for each box in the org chart.  I set the shapes to fade in and fade out at certain intervals to coincide with audio.  The audio is not complete, but I space them for now with approximately 2 secs between.  I previewed the slide.  Currently, only the 4th and 5th shapes fade in and out.  I say currently because in my attempts to trouble shoot the I have problem I've reformatted, deleted, and moved timing of all the shapes.  I've only ever been able to get 2 of the 5 shapes to work.  Any suggestions?

Hey Chris! You mentioned only the 4th and 5th shapes fade in and out; what do the other shapes do? Are they missing from the slide?

I'd be happy to lend a hand! With your permission, I can take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi Alyssa.  Yes, they are missing.  They do not appear on que with the timeline.  They do not appear at all.  However, I did get them to appear by changing their dimensions, height and width, by +/- 1.  The moment I changed the dimension of one of them and previewed, that one also appeared.  I then changed all the rest and the all now appear (fade in and fade out) on que.  I will send you the project, but it will not repeat the problem since I have changed the shapes used for highlighting the org chart.  If you do take a look the slide in question is 1.8.

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris!

Thanks so much for sending over your file. As you mentioned, slide 1.8 is working correctly now that you've adjusted the dimensions of the rectangles. While I'm not able to see the issue in your file, I did encounter a problem in my own sample file when formatting a shape to slide background fill. I copied that shape and placed the copies in several places on the slide. The copied shapes did not display the slide background fill correctly.

However, after adjusting the dimensions of the copied shapes, the background appeared correctly.

Instead of copy/pasting a shape with slide background fill, I would recommend creating each shape individually. It appears that something is going wrong in the copy/paste process.

Let me get this over to my team to see how we can help. If there's a bug here, we'll log it and begin looking at next steps. I appreciate you bringing this up to us!
