I'm new at this Articulate storyline, so anyway, tryed (again) to import a small pps, 36 slides (with hyperlinks) in to storyline.

Using office 2007.  the hyperlinks still do not work. the pictures change size(but reading Articulates support pages, i can fix that). another problem with importing pps is the text turns in to a graphic(unable to change the text after importing).

if there is a way to import pps or ppt's into articulate it would be a great time saver for me.

Hi Scott and welcome to Heroes!

You'll want to follow the steps here to import Powerpoint into Storyline.   As Cindy mentioned the links won't work in preview, you'll need to publish it and then you'll want to test the published output within the intended environment.  Also there are elements outlined here that you'll want to consider when importing Powerpoint into Storyline, such as tables, equations and smartart being imported as images.

I've figured out why the picture changes shape and the text turns into a graphic when importing ppt, what i can't figure out is why the hyperlinks will not work.

Just got off the phone with my "comrades" from Atlanta, they say to just rebuild it in Articulate. Takes to much time to fix imported ppt.

Anyway thank you for the help.

I do like Articulate so far, it's easy to use. I can build a "simple" course quickly.

Hi Scott,

Happy to help. We're happy to take a look at the file with the hyperlinks if you'd like, and you'll also want to keep the following in mind for your .story file and your Powerpoint file to prevent odd behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Not sure how to attach any files to this forum. made three attempts....i.e.zip.files

It's ok I'm rebuilding the course in Articulate. learing to use hotspots and triggers.

I do have another question.

Is it possible to delay a slide transition after the user clicks a hot spot? I would like to delay it for 3 sec.

Hi Scott,

Your zipped file did upload - you'll see it appear next to the "Post your Reply" button once it's been attached and you can only add one file per post.  In regards the file you shared, it was a Powerpoint file, not a .story file? If you're able to share the .story file that isn't working with the hyperlinks that'll help us troubleshoot further and let us know which slide has the hyperlink which isn't working as I didn't notice one in the Powerpoint file.

There is not a built in trigger to delay the jump to a new slide based on clicking a hotspot, but you could set it up that when you click the hotspot it changes the state of an off screen object whose length is set to 3 seconds on the timeline. You'd then want to set up a trigger to jump to the next slide when the timeline of the object ends, if the state is X (whatever it was changed to based on clicking the hotspot).  You'd also want to remove the built in next button from the player to prevent the user from clicking on that to jump to the slide or set it up to only be active according to the user interacting with the hotspot.

Hi Ashley

Sorry, I thought that's what I sent you.

Let's just leave this, (beating a dead horse).  I want to "rebuild" this course in storyline.

Monday I'm flying to Atlanta to work with my colleagues on some issues we are having with storyline. (not a problem with storyline) It's training for us and how to use it. We have some in-house issues. (hardware, old out dated corporate standards.etc....)

I'm tired of the old E-Learning courses that we've all seen in the past, painful to get through, and we don't get anything from the ton of information packed into a 5 pound bucket. We need to break out of that mold.

Articulate Storyline and Replay looks like a tool that we can use to make a great looking E-learning courses, and I'm excited to learn this software.

Question: Does Articulate offer training for storyline? I don't mean online. Someone to give a 8 hour class to about 10 - 20 people, just to get us started.

Hi Ashley

I got another question.

I just spent 1 and a half days building an software simulator in a storyline project.

Then inserted it into another storyline project, when I did this all the fonts changed and triggers moved.

question is: is there and easy fix for this or do i need to go back and redo every slide? (40 slides)

Hi Scott,

Sorry for jumping in here - but I wanted to see if I could help with the project you're working with.

You're referring to Storyline slides, not PowerPoint slides, correct? If so, how are the fonts changing? I'm just curious if the formatting applied to the project carried over to the new content that was imported.

Also, which method did you use to import the slides? If you haven't already tried this, it may help:

Importing from Another Storyline Project - E-Learning Heroes

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

Thanks for confirming.

Could you provide the additional information I requested earlier, when you have a moment, please?

If so, how are the fonts changing? I'm just curious if the formatting applied to the project carried over to the new content that was imported.

If you import the slides into a new, blank project file, does the same thing happen?

Thanks!
