Inserting screen recording

Feb 13, 2013

I am using the six-tab interactions layout template.  I have set up the first screen the way I want it.  It has a placeholder for a video on the first slide.  I've recorded a PPT using "Record Screen."  I would like to insert it where the template suggests a video.  I would like it to be the same size and to play when clicked.  I cannot figure out how to insert the screen recording.  The inserting-a-video feature doesn't seem to be the way to go.  I can't find the file.

Hi Mark,

I apologize, I'm a little confused. You created the screen recording in PowerPoint/Presenter for use in Storyline? If so, can you just create a recording in Storyline and insert it, instead? Or do you mean you simply created a screen recording in Storyline of a PowerPoint presentation? I apologize for the questions, I just want to make sure I'm understanding what you're trying to accomplish.

If you created a screen recording within Storyline, you should see the option to insert the recording in the current scene or a new scene. I believe the default is to insert into a new scene. You may want to check to see if there were any new scenes created with the recording. If so, you should be able to open that scene, select that video (if it's a single video recording), cut/copy and paste it into your slide.

Hi Christine

I am working within Storyline.  I selected the "Insert " tab and then "Record Screen."  I recorded my voice on a PPT.  I selected the current scene.  I've attached a screen shot.  It created a screen recording.  I would like 1.2 to play in 1.1 in the window that says, "The Writing Process Overview."  I'm not sure how to proceed.  I don't understand how I can cut/copy and paste it into my slide.  Sorry.  I have the E-Learning Uncovered: Articulate Storyline book, but that didn't help, and I have spent hours scouring the Articulate forums and blogs to no avail..

Hi Mark,

I think I see what the issue may be. Is this a Try or Test mode recording, or in Step-by-Step viewing? If the video isn't set as "Video on a Single Slide" I'm not sure you can move it. With a view mode recording, you can actually select and re-size the video in the slide. If it's any step-by-step recordings, they become a part of the slide, itself, so you cannot select them. You'll be able to select the additional elements, such as hot spots, etc., but not the image created from the recording.I hope this makes sense

If you are using a view mode recording, simply clicking on the video (if it's not behind and object blocking it) will allow you to select it. You can either right-click and select "Copy" or use CTRL+C to copy the video. Then, after going to the other slide, press CTRL+V or right-click and select "Paste".

Ooooh alright, thanks so much for sharing that. Makes it much easier to understand

I was able to navigate into the 1.2 slide, cut the video from that slide and paste it into 1.1. You wanted the video placed next to the male character on this slide, correct? I placed the video here and added play/pause triggers to the timeline and the video (so the video will start when the user clicks on the play button).

Let me know if this works for you :)

What you created is exactly what I want.  I'm uncertain why cutting worked and not copying.  Cutting leaves a blank slide.  I'll remove it and see if that has a negative effect. And, I'll try adding video to several other pages to make sure this works.  This procedure should work with the rest of the slides that I want to add.

It's 11pm on a Friday night, so I think I'll leave this until tomorrow.

Thanks a lot,

Mark
