Inserting Software Demos and Sims

Aug 08, 2014

Are you limited to inserting software as a new slide or as a new scene only? Can you insert them into a slide layer? Also, if you insert them into a new slide or scene, can you adjust the size so that you can show a slide title? Finally, where can you delete "steps" that automatically display in the player?

Thanks in advance! Sandra

Good Morning Sandra, and welcome to Heroes!

Our Tutorials on Adding Screen Recordings and Editing Screen Recordings should answer many of your questions:

  • Use the "Insert slides in" drop-down list to select either New Scene (which is the default option) or an existing scene in your story. If you choose to insert a new scene, use the Scene Name field to assign a name to the new scene.

  • There's no default option to insert into a layer once you've created the screencast. However, this Forum Thread and this Forum Thread have some suggestions that may help you to achieve what you are looking for.
  • If you inserted a single video recording, you can resize the video by selecting it in the slide and dragging the "grabbers" on the edges. Alternatively, you can select the video in the slide and edit the size of the video by adjusting the "Size" options under the "Options" tab. However, if you've created a step-by-step screen recording or a recording that separates each section of your video, you won't be able to adjust the size. This is because the separated sections actually become a part of the slide backgrounds. Please see this Forum Thread and this Forum Thread for more information.
  • After inserting a screen recording into your story as step-by-step slides, you can add, edit, and delete slides as usual, and you can modify the captions, hotspots, data entry fields, feedback layers, and mouse movements that Storyline automatically generated for you during the recording process. Please see this Tutorial for more information.

Good luck with your project!
