inserting video link in Storyline presentation

Jan 10, 2014

Hi there!  I've had great success embedding vids in Story line, but now a client instead wants me to use a link to a video on their Google site.  They have sent me a web address - https:// etc. etc., but when I try to copy that into the dialog box for "Insert Video from Web address" I get error messages, and the address does not have all the stuff of the "embed code" shown in your help.  I don't have very much web training, and am sure I am  doing one or more (maybe every-) things wrong.

If I try and use that web address with the Insert Web Object dialog box, it seems to work within Storyline, and I can preview and test the link just fine, but when I publish, nothing shows or happens.

The client wants to use Storyline published links with a confirming exam afterword to obtain compliance - legal proof of the student watching the video.

Any and all help would be appreciated - you folks have always come through for me in the past.

PS - don't let the photo scare you - that's me over 30 years, 3 heart attacks, quitting smoking, and a quadruple bypass ago.  I just use it because I had hair then.

Cam.

Hi Cam,

Using the web address is different than the embed code. If it's their own Google site, I don't know that it would have the embed code available, but you may want to look and see if there are any "share" options associated with the video. That is where you would typically find the embed code.

Now, when you tried using it as a web object, did you test the published output locally?  If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published as described

Let us know if you need any further help!

P.S. - no worries on the photo either! There are definitely more unusual photos here.
