Interaction Issue

I have a course and I would like an interaction where learners can click up or down on arrows to identify the correct number of something. Right now I have an rectangle with 10 states, each one has a number.
I have an image of an up arrow and an image of a down arrow and I've set conditions to say:
- Change the state of the rectangle to 1 when the user clicks the up arrow if the state of the rectangle is normal.
- Change the state of the rectangle to 2 when the user clicks the up arrow if the state of the rectangle is 1.
And so on all the way to 10. But for some reason, it's not working the way I would like it to work. Can anyone see the issue? I've attached the slide as well if it helps to see visually.
Thanks so much!

Have a look at the attached and see if that's what you wanted. Instead of using states, I added a variable that counts up/down. Based on that variable, the states are changed. I also added Disabled states for the two arrows so that they can only count up to 10, and down to 0.
@Michael Beat me too it. :)
Thank you so much! I knew it was something simple, I just wasn't quite there.
