Interactive Screenshots

Oct 04, 2013

Hi,

I was curious if anyone could help me out. I am new to Storyline and have been looking through the tutorials and was directed to here. I am adding screen shots of a software that I'd like to make interactive. The two things I'm looking to do right now is make a drop down box interactive (maybe there's a better option than screenshot) and then give a user the ability to type in the text fields. If there's another option that I don't know about I'm all ears.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi Derek and welcome to Heroes!

Have you tried using the built in screen recording feature in Test or Try mode? This will allow the user to walk through the options of how to use the drop down menu or enter in some predetermined text. If you're looking for something a bit more customized, could you possibly describe it a bit more so that the community can offer suggested solutions?

i have been trying for this as well. Try and Test don't guide a user through a process. The user has to guess what to click with no suggestions. Then there's the other end of the spectrum -- the Demonstration, which doesn't involve user participation at all. I tried importing captivate files as video and swf, but the "pause until user clicks" feature is disabled. The swf advances on its own.

For a software demonstration, the best option is to tell a user what to click, then have them click it. The only way I have found to do this in Storyline is to do a Try mode recording, then alter a ton of stuff in every slide (have the Hint appear when timeline begins; remove the screencast animation, and make screen advance when the hotspot is clicked). this takes forever.
