Interactive Slider / Graph (Storyline 2)

Sep 17, 2014

Hi all,

Having a play with Storyline 2 and so far I'm liking the changes. One thing that really caught my attention is the interactive bar chart demo on the "Whats New" page for storyline 2, where a slider animates a bar chart up and down.

I've tried valiantly to reproduce this but have had no luck. Is this achievable, and if so, how can you make objects animate like that, or is this (heaven forbid) smoke-and-mirrors for the sake of this demo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Andy

I'm guessing here, but to me it looked like the bar charts are also sliders that were simply made to look like bars. As you change the actual slider at the bottom, the bars will change with it. I had done something similar in an example where one slider 'drives' other sliders. See here, the first example.

Hi Michael I thought that originally but this http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/55931.aspx

changed my mind.

Using sliders is better way to do it

Ah, I see. Using good old-fashioned states is of course another way to do it. I just went for ( what I think) the simplest option

Hi guys,

Thank you for the quick feedback. Played around with states and managed to get something similar to that demo, then stumbled across this page https://www.articulate.com/products/storyline-arlyns-favorite-features.php which confirms its created using states, and a lot of them! Bit of a long winded way of doing it, but the end result is nice, nevertheless.

Michael and Phil,

Question on using the sliders driving sliders approach (specifically, your EQ example Michael).

Did you use a shape to mask the vertical sliders?  If not, I'm wondering how you get the bottom base to be constant.

Mike

I used an 'offset' value for each slave slider, so that it is set based on +/-
