Internet Explorer will not display web object video in slide (Only offers to Open or Save As)
Jan 05, 2015
Hi everyone,
I am building a course and it contains about 91 videos. I am busy in the testing phases of the video library and I have embedded the videos as Web Objects, but I notice that the videos work perfectly fine in other browsers, but in Internet Explorer 11, it only gives you the options "Open or Save as." I can't have this as it needs to show the video in the slide itself and it looks unprofessional. (I have the latest version of IE and Flash installed.)
For obvious reasons, I can't "add from file" as I see that the videos all get encoded when I publish the scene. So I can't have it convert 91 videos, or contain 91 videos in the file itself, as it will either take forever to encode every time, or the file will crash whilst trying to do so.
Is there anything that I am doing wrong? And if so, what would be the best way to fix it? Or is it something with Internet Explorer that I might need to change? (Unfortunately, we mostly use IE as the default browser on our systems, so it would be ideal if I didn't have to get every person to have to apply changes to IE on their respective machines.)
Thanks in advance.

I can't say that I've ran into this issue before, but I wonder if you test locally (on your harddrive). I would upload the published content to some server (or an alternative like TempShare or GoogleDocs) and test again.
Hello S L,
Welcome to the community! As Michael stated, you will make sure you are testing these files in their intended environment. You can find more information here.
Hi Michael and Emily,
I have tested it locally, but I always test the final product on a server and it still does the same thing. I find it odd as it is only with Internet Explorer?
Hi S L,
I also haven't seen this in IE11 - but I wonder if you've tried in a different server or with a different web object to rule out those elements forcing IE to think it needs to be opened or saved? If you're still seeing it do you have a link to an example we could try?
Hi Ashley,
I have tried it with a different web object (also a video obviously), as well as a different server, and the outcome is still the same. Unfortunately due to information privacy issues, I'm not in a place to send a link to the published Storyline file itself, but I can send a link to the video on both servers.
Test server 01: http://empandainteractive.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/01-Installing-the-MSP-Add-In.mp4
Test server 02: http://teacupsandangels.co.za/videos/01%20-%20Creating%20shared%20and%20chained%20filters.mp4
I hope this helps in that regard.
Thanks,
S.
EDIT: Sorry about the two extra clone posts, after replying it just goes to a white screen and nothing happens. So after refreshing twice, it must have reposted the other two posts. (With Google Chrome)

Thanks SL for the links - I tested one of them as a web object in Storyline and posted it on Tempshare here. I tested that in IE11 and although it took a few more seconds to load than Chrome or Firefox it worked normally and played in the screen. Can you test that link?
No worries about the duplicate posts.,
Good morning again Ashley,
Thanks also for the reply on this issue. I have tried it in Chrome and it works fine, but in IE 11 it still is doing the same thing where it just asks to Save or Open it, where it then opens the video on my local media player. (See attachment for details.)
Kind regards,
S.L.
Hi SL,
I don't know enough about IE11 to identify the browser setting you'd need to change or if it could be an overall security setting on your system - but since the same video ran fine for me in IE11 I'd suggest you work with your IT team to see if they're able to help you adjust any settings.
Hi Ashley,
Okay great thanks, I will let them have a look and see what we can do.
Thanks,
S.
