Invalid Answer doesn't display correctly

Feb 28, 2013

Anyone else notice an issue with Storyline when importing a Quizmaker 09 course and republishing where the "Invalid Answer" text doesn't display correctly?

I've checked that the text is correct in the Text Labels and I've gone so far as to change the text, save the file, and then re-edit the text. For some reason it appears to not want to  fully display the Invalid Answer text.

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Paul!

I'm afraid I'm not able to reproduce this. I'm not sure if you've adjusted the text labels from within Storyline, or Quizmaker, either. Have you checked the file through Quizmaker, as well as Storyline? Just curious to see if the labels vary at all.

Also, please be sure you're working with local files. If you are experiencing unexpected issues using Articulate software, here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you've checked all of the above, please create a new, blank Storyline course. Try to import the Quizmaker quiz into this new course and see if you experience the same thing.

If you continue to see this, can you tell me how you're viewing the content when this happens? Does this happen when previewing the course, or after it has been published? I believe you're viewing this after it's been published, but I just want to find out if this is happening in both for you. If this only happens after publishing, how are you publishing (Web, HTML5, LMS, CD, etc.)?

Thanks!

Paul Shaffer

- I'm working locally. C drive.

- Just to confirm that the text labels are correct I saved them and then confirmed that the xml did indeed have "Invalid Answer"

The hard part is that it only appears after I've published it. In the previewer everything looks correct.

- I checked the Quiz in Quizmaker 09 and the text labels display correctly. I confirmed by publishing as SCORM 2004 3ed for LMS and launched the quiz.html file from my desktop.

- I created a blank Storyline project and imported the quiz file. The text labels still appear to look correct. I published as SCORM 2004 3ed for LMS and launched the story.html from my desktop. The text now displays incorrectly showing  "Inalid nser."

This only happens after publishing. I haven't tested other publishing methods since we don't use them.

I did test other languages aside from English and this only seems to occur with English.

Hi Paul,

I apologize for the delay. Thanks very much for the detailed information. I appreciate it!

That does sound really strange. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the browser, or the actual file. It may also be an issue with the output type, but without seeing the file, it's hard to say. Are you able to share the .STORY file that contains the quiz, or the .QUIZ file here, so I can take a look? If you'd like to keep the files private, you're welcome to submit them to our support team.

You'll be able to attach the .STORY or .QUIZ file on the second page of the following form:
