Invalid answer to incorrect answer

I'm trying to emulate the feedback from some other courseware that registers no response selected in multiple choice as an incorrect answer. I am able to change the invalid response feedback to look like an incorrect response, but it is not registered as a "try". I'd like to edit the trigger for invalid response to instead register as an incorrect response (and thus count the try and display the incorrect answer layer) - is this possible?
