Invalid or Corrupt File

Jan 05, 2021

I saw that there are some old discussions on this issue but is there a fix for this? This is not my file so I don't have a tmp version. This is a course a colleague created and I need to update it. Unfortunately our team does a lot of contract work so I can't ask the creator if they have a local version because they are no longer with the company. I also can't upload the file here because of proprietary information in the course. This was just created in March so it should have been created in 360 so I am confused as to why it won't open.

Hi Gwen,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry you're running into this issue! File corruption is hard to pin down as there could be several reasons for the error. Since you're unable to share the file with us, you can try these tips below:

  1. Save a copy of the file to your desktop and rename the file. Then try to open it.
  2. After step 1, open a blank project file, then choose File->Import->Storyline to import the slides. Then try to open it.

If you're still unable to get the file going, our team may be able to provide some additional guidance, so feel free to connect with us using the link below!

I'm having this issue as well.  I have a .story that was originally created in SL1.  It was then imported and upgraded into SL360 some number of years later.  It was published with Flash Fallback - which wont work with our browsers, so I need to republish as HTML5 only with no fallback.  I cannot open the file in 360, I get an error that it's corrupt and may have been created in a newer version (obviously not possible).  I made a copy and attempted to open that, still no luck.  I CAN open the file in SL2 and SL3.  I have a license for SL2, but cannot use this for publishing because it still includes Flash elements.  I do not have a license for SL3, only the free trial.  I can use this to publish as HTML5 only to meet the immediate need.  Even after saving the file in SL3, I cannot open that one in SL360.  How the heck can I get this opened in SL360??
