iPad Glossary not scrolling

May 02, 2014

I have a course that I used the built in Glossary.  It works great on the desktop but once I launch it in mobile safari on the iPad, I can click on the glossary, but the scroll bar has disappeared and I can only see the top 7 terms.  I have no way to see the remaining 10 terms.  Is there a way to scroll on the ipad built in glossary?

Hi Randy,

It may be due to an issue that we're investigating at the moment with HTML5 and scrolling panels. From what we're seeing, if there are too many characters in the scrolling panel, it can result in a blank panel or it will only display up to a certain point.

Here's another thread on this topic.

Are you able to share your .STORY file, so we can take a look and see if this is related?

Thanks!

Sorry, I was out for the weekend. I looked at that other article and figured I would try the two finger scroll. It kind of worked. So it looks like after I open up the glossary, and then place one finger on the glossary and then with a second finger try and scroll, it works 1 out of 5 times. Is there a rhyme or reason to this? Am I doing it wrong? Here is a link to the published file. Menu test

Ok, so I got the 2 finger scroll down a little better.  It is still a bit off but works a little better.  My other question is, the ipad is changing the color scheme of the glossary.  On the desktop the glossary terms are white then when selected the text stays white but a grey box is behind it.  When the same file is played on the iPad, the text turns grey when selected and almost blends in with the grey selected bar.  Is there any way to change this color so that the text is still visible?

Hi Randy,

I'm glad to hear that the scrolling is working a little bit better for you :)

I took a look at the link you provided earlier. The first few items in the Glossary showed up as white with a light highlight when I selected them, but after a while, some of the items in the list were showing up darker.

Can you please confirm that you're publishing with Update 5? To find this information, click on Help >> About Articulate Storyline

If you're not running version 5, please download it and install the update. After installing, please try republishing the project and let me know if you see the same thing.

If you've updated, or already have the update installed, please share the .story file here, so I can test this on my end.

Thank you!

Hi CK1,

Long time no see :) Hope you're doing well!

The scroll bar is an issue that's come up, but right now the best option is the 2-finger scroll:

When viewing HTML5 content in mobile Safari on an iPad or iPhone, use two fingers to scroll through content in scrolling panels.

Tip: Mobile Safari doesn't show scroll bars until you begin scrolling.

For the color issues, are you able to share a link to a published version, or your .STORY file here? I'd like to see if the color changes for your project are similar to the ones I saw in Randy's course.

Thanks!

Hi, I have been struggling with this issue as well and have come up with a workaround using the free form drag and drop feature in storyline.

Basically what I did was group everything on the slide that I wanted to scroll together and then placed a transparent shape (the size of the slide behind the group. Once this was done, I converted the slide to a freeform drag and drop and made the group the drag item and the transparent shape the drop item. I turned off all the feedback and configured the rest of the options as shown. I also turned off the submit button.

Here is a demo  - try it out on your iPad and let me know if you have any issues with how it works.

I've included the story file so you can see how I set this up.
