There isn't a way to adjust the properties of objects on the slide using variables - but if you could share a bit more about what you're looking to do someone in the community may be able to offer an idea or alternative.
The current slide number or slide count is also not a system variable, but a lot of users have implemented their own methods to track slide number using the "Add to variable" trigger set up. There are a number of threads out there with different set ups, so here is one to get you started. This thread also has a lot of great examples of progress bars that you may want to look at implementing.
