Hi all. I've set up the slide masters and layouts for my course and want to make sure that all slides use these masters. I've also saved a version of this course as a storytemplate which I'm using to import commonly used slides.
The problem is that a duplicate master is also inserted when a slide is added from the template. Is there any way I can stop this from happening?
I don't think so - this drives me crazy as well. As soon as I import a slide i apply a new layout and then go to the slide master and strip out the imported one to keep things tidy.
Following this to see if someone knows how to do it!
Thanks for your reply, Wendy. In the absence of a solution your tip is a good one, because if the imported master is unpreserved and unused by any other slides it seems to drop away by itself.
I'm glad that Wendy's solution works for you - and you'll want to look into removing the duplicate masters as they can add to the overall file size of your .story file and the published output.
If you didn't want the master included, you could apply one of the basic slide masters to it before conducting the import and then the additional slide masters and their elements wouldn't be included - but otherwise there isn't an option to say "don't include the slide master".
I couldn't find this feature in the current version of Storyline 360, so I submitted a feature request. If this already exists please let me know.
Here's what I wrote:
I'd like to suggest being able to import slides without the master. Perhaps the import feature could ask you what master you would like to use. You could choose the original master or a master that is part of the course you are importing it into.
I just realize that after importing the slides I could select all slides in the Story View and right click choose apply layout and apply a new master that way. (I still think it would be a great import feature.)
Thanks for reaching out and sharing your feature request, though I'm glad you were able to find a solution for applying new masters to your imported slides!
We don’t have currently have plans for this feature in our roadmap, but we’ll remain active in our tracking of this request and be sure to update this discussion if anything changes!

Hi Ashley, should I take it from your response that there is no option to import the slide without its master?
