I know that we can "upgrade" .story files made in Storyline 2 to Storyline 360, but will Storyline 2 open files from Storyline 360? Can we save in a Storyline 2 format?
With the recent release of Storyline 3, has anyone seen any updated information as to whether Storyline 360 files could be opened, edited, or saved with Storyline 3?
As a public school district employee, I'm worried that if our funding for the subscription model (360) gets cut, any eLearnings we develop using that product would be "locked" and couldn't be revised, even if we purchased SL3.
Storyline 360 projects can be opened and edited with Storyline 3 except when they include new features that exist only in Storyline 360. Storyline 3 projects can always be opened and edited with Storyline 360. We think this is the best way to help customers who need to exchange projects between the perpetual version and subscription version (which will always be more feature-rich) of Storyline.
Which features are those " new features that exist only in Storyline 360"? We are trying to decide if we go w/360 or not. We have others in our company who are/will use v3, but we need to be cross compatible.
We don't have a list of those features yet, as today Storyline 360 and Storyline 3 have the same feature set.
We did release an update with fixes to Storyline 360 earlier this week, but any file created today in Storyline 360 will still open in Storyline 3. The fixed items will remain unfixed in Storyline 3 until an update specific to Storyline 3 is released and we'll keep folks posted on that.
Articulate Storyline is backward compatible - it can open projects created in older versions of the software. Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 projects can be upgraded to Storyline 360.
Articulate Storyline isn't forward compatible - it can't open projects created in newer versions of the software. Storyline 360 projects can't be opened or edited with previous versions. Forward compatibility is very rare in the software industry - it's not the normal and not something to be expected.
Storyline 3 and Storyline 360 projects can be opened interchangeably, except when a Storyline 360 project file has features that are exclusive to Storyline 360. Details here.
