Is there a way to create a 'Pause' button on the player?

Is there a way to permit pausing, without enabling the seek bar?  When we have the seek bar enabled, our learners know how to pull the arrow to the end to bypass content.  I know we can change text labels on the player buttons, but is there also a way to change/add functionality that would allow pausing via a button?  The functionality I see on the buttons is 'next,' 'previous,' and 'submit.'    Thanks
