Hi there Sarah! Here's a tutorial on Removing Image Backgrounds in PowerPoint that you may find useful! Who knew you could use a presentation tool as an image editing tool? Works great for folks who don't have skills with Photoshop, like me. :)
I don't have PowerPoint, and am quickly racking up evidence that I need it, however, right now I am curious if there is a way to do this IN storyline 2
If you can get Powerpoint free, it is a great add-in to SL. If not, Paint.net is a free and very powerful graphic program. Windows paint has been free with Windows since Bill Gates was in college.
Here is a movie of using Windows Paint to do what you want.
But remember, SL is a visual medium, so nothing has to really do what you want; it only has to look like what you want. So the second video shows how to do this in SL.
