Issue in video and timeline animation screen

Apr 16, 2015

Hi,

I have encountered a new issue in Articulate Storyline 2. This issue is seen in video or timeline animation screen upon revisiting the screen by clicking the next/back button of the course player. The problem is that when the slide layer popup is displayed the base layer timeline does not pause.

Please help me find a solution to this.

Thanks

Hi Vinod

I click Next on the welcome screen and the video commences...I click next part way through and the video pauses, the popup layer displays and I can click Yes/No.  I click Yes, go to the next screen, click back and the video starts again - this is because the slide properties is set to 'reset to initial state'.  I changed to 'resume saved state' so that when I click previous on slide three it returns to where I left off which was the paused video and a popup displaying.  Is this the behaviour you are after?

Hi Wendy,

I tried following the solution you had suggested. however, this time when I set the properties of the slide layer to 'Resume Saved State' I am facing a different issue. When I revisit the video screen, I see the alert pop-up that was displayed the last time I was on the same screen. I selected the option that allows me to stay on the same page so that I can view the video. However, the video is still in the paused state. In order to view the video, I have to click on the video again in order to play it.

My requirement is that when I am on the video screen and I move next, the alert pop-up displays. In the pop-up, I select the option that allows me to go to the next page. from the next page I come back to the video screen and I see the video playing. Here again I click the next button while the video plays. The alert pop-up displays. At present my challenge is that while the pop-up is open the video keeps playing in the background. I want a solution that helps me pause the video playing in the background while the pop-up display is open.

This is how the page should function whenever I visit the video page.

Hi Vinod

that's exactly what I see, when the popup is displayed, the video is paused, if I click to stay on the video and close the popup, the video resumes from where it was when I clicked Next and the popup displayed.  I do not see the video keep playing in the background while the popup is onscreen.  Hopefully someone can help you.

Hi Vinod,

It looks like Wendy's suggestion of allowing the slide to "resume" the timeline will allow the video to replay once the user revisits the slide, although as you mentioned they'll need to select the correct answer in the pop up and then click to play the video. You may want to just indicate that to the user to let them know how to proceed.
