Issue reporting variables to LMS

Feb 10, 2017

Dear All,

I have created some analytics based on this tutorial: https://articulate.com/support/article/reporting-storyline-variables-to-an-lms

At Step3- it says "To hide this slide from learners, edit the default Submit interaction trigger so it executes when the timeline of the slide starts."

My question is, if we are not showing this screen , how will this trigger execute when timeline starts?

I have published the build and checked reports in Articulate Online. I am unable to get the analytics data from those hidden 'short answer' slides. When I tried including those hidden slides in output, it works. How to achieve this without including those dummy slides part of output?

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi imgk,

What you want to do with this is use a trigger to set the value of the interaction with the variable value, and then another trigger to submit the slide. You can hide any content on the slide by placing blank content in front of the interaction. The trigger will enter the value and submit the slide and then move on to the next slide without any user interaction.

Thanks Dave, for the reply.

The tutorial says (link in my thread), we can hide these question slides from User's view (it is mentioned in more than one instances) and still achieve this - passing variables to LMS.

I would like to keep these slides hidden in output so User dont see it.

How to achieve this when we are hiding these slides from User  and same time, executing the triggers?

Hi Imgk,

You have to allow the slide to play to execute the triggers. However, you can hide the content on the slide, which is what the tutorial is referring to. As I mentioned above, you can place something in front of the active content, for example a shape with a white fill. Set the triggers to activate when the timeline starts. The slide will only show for a brief moment before moving on. You can also set any elements to only show on the timeline after about 1/4 second. The triggers will activate before that, and the slide will move on.
