Issue with bookmarking with a Storyline project

Nov 06, 2012

My understanding that Storyline bookmarks within a SCORM1.2 project using the SCORM objective parameters. My LMS does not support this SCORM parameter. It does support cmi.core.lesson_location and cmi.suspend_data. If the user leaves a module prior to completion, my projects doesn't show them which sections have been completed and where to resume since it typically tracks this in the objectives parameter. Is there any flexibility as to where it can be configured to alternatively track progress?

Welcome to Heroes, Andrew!

It's possible you're exceeding the SCORM suspend data. The suspend_data element for a SCORM course tells the LMS where you left off when you exited the course. It allows you to resume the course in the same place without having to start over. This article has more information.

You could also try testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team. The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Thanks for the prompt response, Peter. I did upload and test the course in the SCORM Cloud and it did function as designed and bookmark correctly.  When i pulled the SCORM logs, i noticed a lot of communications using the cmi.objectives and children parameters and assumed that our inability to bookmark was based on that. But it sounds like you are telling me it is bookmarking within the project solely on the cmi.suspend_data parameter, then it should be working correctly. I believe we have the standard 4096 char limit for that field, but will verify with our LMS team. Our LMS is what i would call, "minimally" SCORM compliant, only supporting 8 standard SCORM parameters (student_id, student_name, lesson_location, credit, lesson_status, score.raw, session_time, and suspend_data.).
