Issue with Hover state (after first hover instance)

Jan 08, 2021

Hi there

I have attached a piece of my storyline and the review link.

I was given a lot of content and tried to break it up by giving the learner multiple buttons (they can select in any order) and then return to the main slide to select the next one.

I updated storyline today (Dec updates), and now I have this odd thing happening.

Select a button doesn't matter which one, hover over "Return to main slide" the pop up text shows up and it glows....as expected.  But then select another button doesn't matter, from here on it, when I hover over the "Return to main slide" button the first time nothing happens if I move my mouse away and come back the hover state shows....

Not sure if I have done something, but odd it only happens on the 2nd to 11th time and it doesn't matter which button I start with.

Thanks

Teresa

For what it's worth, if you visit a layer, return to the menu, and revisit the same layer, the Hover state behaves normally. But if you visit another layer, then return to the first layer, Hover does not work. In other words, Hover doesn't function correctly on any layer if another layer has been visited immediately before it, but it does work if it is the first layer visited, or if it is revisited successively.

I don't know why, perhaps corruption, or a bug.

I built a slide with buttons and layers, and did not see the same behavior.

When I attempted to build a similar test slide in your project, I ran into problems. When I built two buttons to show layers, I could not change the trigger on one of them, without the trigger on the other one changing. This is a very strong indication of corruption.  You can try it yourself with the attached project. Go to slide 1.4 and try to change the trigger on one of the blue objects. The other will also have the new trigger.  I imported your slide into a  new project, which sometimes clears this sort of problem up, but it didn't work.

My opinion is that you will need to create this slide from scratch, unless you can isolate the object that is causing the problem. Otherwise, If you copy and reuse even one object from this slide, you run the risk of copying the corruption.

Thanks Walt for the thorough response.  Figures my biggest slide is the one that gets corrupted.

I still have a bit to do, I will have to decide to be honest if the hover is worth it.  After a click or two the learner probably won't even notice any more (if I am honest with myself).

i will definitely check out your file.

Cheers
