Issue with layers after SL 2 upgrade
Mar 05, 2015
I just installed Storyline 2 (SL 2) and when I open a project created in Storyline 1 (SL 1) I have a problem with layers. I have slides where the layers are triggered off an object placed off stage with a trigger set to show a specific layer when the timeline for that object starts. I have used this method extensively in SL 1 with no issues. Now, in SL 2, when the trigger shows the layer, the layer freezes in pause and will not play. I created a new project in SL 2 using the same technique and it worked as designed, so it appears to be an issue with projects created in SL 1. Anybody see this happen when migrating to SL 2 from SL 1?

Hello Edward,
Could you import this slide into a new file and see if you get the same issue?
Also, have you tried recreating the trigger on the slide?
Emily, Thanks for the reply. I'll try importing and see what happens. I did try and recreate the trigger in a new slide in the same project and got the same results. It works ok in a new project, just not in ones originally created in SL1. This is a real bummer as I have seven courses near completion in SL1 that I now cannot finish in SL2.
Let us know how this works Edward,
You could always share the file here if you would like us to take a look. Also, when you reply via email - your email signature will appear in the post. You can click on edit to remove this.
Here is the project I first encountered this issue with. Sorry about the email signature, chalk it up to Monday morning. :)
Emily,
Just noticed you are Staff. I have also submitted this as a case, #00477633. Man, it is Monday with a vengeance!
Mondays are always great :)
Thanks for sharing the case number. I see that you are working with Renato, and I will keep an eye on the case to see if there is a resolution.
Thanks, any help to resolve this is appreciated, as I mentioned, I have 7 courses on hold now until this get's resolved.

Emily,
When I first attempted to open the SL1 file in SL2 it asked me if I wanted to update the file and create a backup of the original. I did that. In trying your suggestion of importing the original file, I opened a new project in SL2 and imported the original SL 1 file backup that was created when I updated it to SL 2. It imported fine but the layer issue is still there, only this time it looked like it was starting to play then froze. Hope this additional information helps.
Thank you Edward,
I have shared this information in your case.
Has this been resolved? I'm having the same issue with layers in a file upgraded from Storyline 1 to Storyline 2.
Thank you!
Turned out the problem was that In was using a work around for a function, triggering a layer off the timeline, that was not available in SL1. Now that this feature is available in SL2 the issue was resolved. What I was doing in SL1 was inserting a shape off stage and placing it at the end of the timeline and creating a trigger to show layer when timeline started for that shape. Now, in SL2, you can add a trigger that will show a layer based on any number of variables, including timeline settings. (Think I got that right)
Hi Kimberly! If you're having an issue that you'd like us to take a look at, feel free to share the details and the .story file.
Thanks, Edward and Leslie. It looks like there were some transitions added/altered for the layers in the upgrading process. I'm pretty new to Articulate and this threw me for a loop, but all is good now.
Thanks again!
Glad to hear it Kimberly. Thanks for popping in and sharing your update with us.
