Issue with LMS reporting completed for course that includes a Quiz

Jul 11, 2013

Hi,

If a course includes a quiz, but the course is set to use page views to mark completion, then when the user has viewed all the pages in the course, the course sends "completed" as the lesson_status value and does not send a score.  This is correct by itself.  But in this case, the imsmanifest.xml file includes a "mastery score".  This is not correct. Our testing shows that at least one major LMS (Saba) will never mark such a course complete.  Page 3-24 of SCORM_1.2_RunTimeEnvironment.pdf (attached) states that if there is a mastery score in the manifest, the LMS can compare the score that was passed and change the status to passed or failed.  So Saba is behaving in a manner permitted in the SCORM spec, and we think the issue is in Storyline.

If a course is using page views to mark completion, there must not be a mastery score specified in the manifest in order for the course to be marked complete in any LMS that is implementing that option in the SCORM spec.
