Issues on tablet (iPad, blackberry)

Apr 23, 2013

Hello,

I have a course that I have published as html5, hoping to make it available for iPad users.  But I have a few problems.  Has anybody here successfully used html5 courses on tablets, and if so, do you have solutions for these problems?  Many thanks in advance.

Menu much too small. It is next-to-impossible to click the tiny menu links, and be sure that you'll go where you want to.

Navigating is very slow.  Going from page to page, using the next button or menu links, can take 5+ seconds, and there is no indication that anything is happening.  (this adds to the problem with the menu, because you may not even realize that you have clicked something!)

Scrollbars in menu unusable.  In a regular scrollpanel, the scrollbar is not visible, but you can scroll by 'grabbing' any part of the text in the panel.  This does not work in the menu, as touching anywhere in the menu takes you to the page you touch.  (no chance to 'drag' it)

Text entry boxes don't work correctly on blackberry device.  This one was reported to me, but I don't have one to test with.  Apparently the keypad appears when you first click on the text entry field, but it disappears before you have a chance to type anything.

FYI - I have tested in Chrome and Safari on iPad.  I cannot use the mobile player because users will need to login, and we will be using javascript code. (both not usable in iPad player, according to what I have read here

Hi Terry,

Sorry we missed this one earlier. HTML5 is still an immature, moving target, and many of the features that work great in Flash don't necessarily translate very well to HTML5. As the technology evolves, we'll be able to better handle the HTML5 output - we've already improved our output in our first two Storyline updates, and our forthcoming third update will improve functionality even more.

The menu not scrolling is something that's recently come to our attention. You might be able to get it to scroll if you use the 2-finger scroll, however, the scrolling is very particular.  Again, that's something that we're working hard on improving in subsequent updates.

Please be sure to enable the "Check for updates at startup" feature in Storyline to be notified when new updates get released.

Please note that we do not officially support Blackberry devices at this time.

Thanks, Terry

Thanks for your response, Peter..

I tried the two finger scroll, and it doesn't work.  I guess I will wait for updates, and try to put off the big bosses until then.

If I could resize the text in the menu, I could theoretically make the touch targets bigger.  Do you know if this is a feature that is being considered?
