Okay, I think I just answered my own question, which begs another question! :) When I insert the graded fill in the blank slide as is with no modifications to it, it works fine. I was attempting to resize and relocate the text answer box, which appears to cause the problems I mentioned. Has anyone modified this type of question slide with no issues? Thanks!
I have been doing some testing on my own to try and determine what caused this bug.
I was using preview mode. I think I have narrowed down the cause. The freeze I mentioned occurred after I manually adjusted the size of the text input box. The workaround was to double click on the text box and then change the dimensions in the Width and Height boxes. Once I adjusted the size of the text box that way, I then moved it to where I wanted it on the slide and everything is working as it should. Hope that makes sense! :)
I also wanted to double check that you're working from your local C: drive, since working from a network or shared drive can cause unwanted problems like these.
it doesn't look like you were able to recreate my issue. No worries, I have it working now for me. I guess I am very good at creating bugs, LOL! Yes, all of my previews have been on my local drive.
What I can tell you is that when I was dealing with the bug, the flashing text cursor automatically appeared in the resized text box on preview. I could type in text initially, but not again for other tries. If I attempted to click inside the text entry box it also froze. It was bizarre for sure.

Hi there, Gene! You should be able to resize your text entry field and move it on the slide.
When you see the freezing, is that happening in Preview or published output? I'd like to do some testing on my end to see what's up.

Thanks for those details, Gene! Take a Peek at this quick test I did in Storyline 360--is that not what you're seeing in your file?

Hmm, that's really strange! In any case, I'm glad you were able to find a workaround.
If you run into this again, be sure to let us know!
Will do, thanks.
