Issues with playing from an LMS, via Chrome
May 26, 2017
Hi all - I'm having an issue currently where my completed storyline file has been published and uploaded to an LMS, but having issues playing with Chrome.
When launching the file plays, but only with a white screen. I can click on where I know buttons are, and hear audio, but just can't see anything. When using IE or Firefox, there's no issue.
In some googling it sounds like this may be a flash issue, but I'm trying to figure out 1) how to fix, and 2) if this is affecting anyone that uses the most up to date version of chrome.
Thanks for any help

Hi there Daniel, thanks for reaching out! Two things come to mind here:
Let me know how it goes; I'll be standing by!
Hi Alyssa - Thanks for the response. It appears to be a Chrome/flash issue, as I went into the settings and allowed all sites to run flash, and that did the trick.
Any suggestions on how bypass something like this? Would hate to have to write out instructions to end users on how to allow flash, or tell them to use IE/Firefox
Glad you got it sorted, Daniel. What version of Storyline are you using? If you're using Storyline 360 or Storyline 3, did you publish with Flash first or HTML5 first?
My organization is about to purchase Storyline 360, this was actually an older eLearning built with Storyline 1 - which I'm guessing could have contributed to this.
Ah, I see. As long as your learners are using Flash Player 10.3 or later and one of these browsers, they should be good to go. If you hear reports that your learners are getting stuck, reach out to us here, and we'll help you sort it out!
Hi, I am having these issues as well. Many of our LMS users are experiencing this problem. Courses that were exported with the html5 option seem to get stuck and get blank page and only audio.
If I allow chrome to run flash it works but I don't want to send a message to 1000 users how they should configure their browse settings. Is there any other option for this? As I said the courses are published with html5 option.
Thanks
Carlos
Sorry your learners are running into that, Carlos! I'd love to help--can you provide a few more details?
Hi Alyssa,
sorry for my too late respond
We use Storyline 2. It seems that only happen in Chrome.I have experienced the problem as well what it didn't happen before..My chrome version is Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (64-bit).
And it is happening more and more..users get a blank screen and only audio is displaying, no images neither text. The Chrome settings are Flash plugin (ask) and to be able to play the courses we have to authorize Flash to run. We have a bunch of courses in our LMS and all are export with the html5 option.
Any help?
Thanks
Carlos
I have seen a discussion with the same problem but there are not yet any answer solving the issue

Thanks for those details, Carlos. Would you mind sharing the unpublished Storyline 2 file with our team by clicking here? We'll do some testing and let you know what we find!
Alyssa, is there an update to Carlos's issue? I'm having the same problem with one of our courses. We are also publishing as HTML5 and the course runs fine on the LMS with IE but not with Chrome Version 62.0.3202.94. Our corporate policies prevent us from turning on flash in Chrome. Thanks!
Hello Hazel!
I don't see that Carlos submitted a file to us, but I'm happy to help you sort this out. What version of Storyline are you using? Do you have a sample file you could share with our team by clicking here?
We are using Storyline 2. Yes, I can load a sample file. Thank you for your help!
Thanks, Hazel. I do see the file you submitted. Our team will give it a test, and we'll let you know what we find!
Hi
I have sent my file as well. Sorry for the delay
Carlos
Hazel--I popped in to check on your case, and my colleague Miker is looking into your file now. You should hear back from him soon!
Carlos--Thanks so much for sharing your file with us. Our Support Engineers will have a look and contact you as soon as they have more to share.
Alyssa, has there been a resolution or an update from the engineers yet? We are also running into issues when users try to launch courses from our LMS (CSOD) using Chrome. Thank you!
Hi Silvia,
Sorry to hear that you've run into an issue as well.
I took a look at the cases for Hazel and Carlos to see if I had a solution to share with you here, but it seems that we were unable to replicate both issues.
So, let's dive in to help you out as well.
Are you able to replicate the issue if you upload your content to SCORM Cloud or is the issue limited to your LMS?
If you are able to replicate, we would want to take a look at your .story file as well which you could share here in the forums or here privately.
We tried SCORM Cloud and one user out of four could not launch the course. We thought it might be the Flash settings but they seem to be up-to-date. However, the other 3 users were unable to launch the course in the LMS but were able to do so in SCORM Cloud.
Hi Silvia,
What happened when that one user tried to launch the course? Did they see an error message? Do you know what version of each browser they tested in?
Version 64.0.3282.186. The error message says: "Oops. An unexpected error has occurred."
Thanks Silvia, I see that error too in SCORM Cloud at times if those users emails have been previously archived in SCORM Cloud. Could that match your scenario, or if this the first time you're users would have accessed anything in SCORM Cloud?
Typically the team as Rustici can help resolve it. Since 3 out of 4 of your colleagues launched it, it sounds like it's working in SCORM Cloud and you may want to also reach out to your LMS admin for next steps.
