Javascript and unresponsive buttons

Hello - 

I have a project in production to that helps kids generate keywords for a library catalog search - http://exlibris.colgate.edu:83/beginningresearch/uke/story.html -

I have figured out the Javascript to get them to email their results to themselves (on the "Your Results!" page) and I've got the code to have them search one variable in the catalog --- However, whenever I try to augment so that all the student-created variables can be searched in catalog, all triggers running on Javascript fail to work (i.e. not only the "Search Library Catalog" button but also the "Email Results" button whose Javascript has not been changed at all).

Is there a limitation to how many times you can call variables in Javascript?  I can't understand why suddenly both buttons wouldn't work because of improper code in one button.

Any ideas would be great appreciated --
