Javascript, HTML5 output and reporting

Aug 29, 2014

Hello

The answer to this question is probably obvious (erm...no you can't) but is there any way I can use JavaScript to report completion status to an LMS when a course has been published as HTML5 output rather than an LMS-ready SCORM package?

The piece of branched learning I've created is MASSIVE and we're having problems with data usage so it's not possible to upload it to the LMS.

Thanks in advance!!

Good Afternoon, Emma-Lee.

I'm a little unsure of exactly what you're dealing with here:

  • HTML5 and "an LMS-ready SCORM package" are not mutually-exclusive. When you publish for LMS, you have the opportunity to choose HTML5 publishing, and you can always deploy your course as HTML5 content, and have learners access it from your LMS with a browser that supports HTML5.
  • Much of our SCORM communication occurs via JavaScript, so if you really wanted to study up on the SCORM Specification and rebuild it using JavaScript Triggers, it might be possible to do so, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that.
  • If you're asking whether or not it's possible to host content in one location and have it communicate with your LMS in another location, Rustici Software has authored an article that you may find helpful. Rustici also offers consulting services that some of our customers have found extremely useful.
  • How massive is MASSIVE? Have you tried uploading your published content to SCORM Cloud to see if it can handle the load?

Please let us know if you need anything else, and good luck with your project!
