Javascript works in one project, not in another
Mar 27, 2014
I have a project, 60 slides long, using a slide master for background design, that I cannot get javascript to work in (text fields are blank instead of showing the date). I have created a new project from scratch and used the same code, and it works, and I have copied out the slide from the original project to a new project, and it works then as well. I have created new slides within the original project whose only elements are the text fields with javascript variables, but for the life of me cannot get it to work. I'm new to Articulate - what should I be looking for to troubleshoot? I see nothing in previous slides that would be affecting the js. The code is good - I can get it to work if I start a new project. Could it be something in the slide master? I didn't create it, but have looked through it and see nothing that makes me think it's the cause. If I *know* that I am coding it correctly in the original project, what types of things could be the cause??
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Brande and welcome to Heroes!
I'm not a Javascript pro, but there are some helpful best practices detailed here. Also, since it's not working in your first file, there could be an overall corruption issue within that file, and it's a good reminder to check out the recommendations here for ensuring you're working with local project files.
Ashley: Thank you for your response. Are there any settings you're aware of that would suppress JavaScript functionality throughout a project? As stated in the original post, there are over 60 slides in this project, and I don't have time to recreate the entire project. Is there something I can check for to see if there is corruption in a certain element or slide within the project that might be causing the issue?
Thanks!
Hi Brande,
You could try importing the existing project into a new Storyline project as described here. That is generally a good way to resolve any corruption issues - were you working on a network/USB drive?
Yes, I was working on a network drive, and have since learned that that could be the problem. I am now working on my local drive, and had to recreate one Scene to remove the corruption, but that was better than recreating all 66 slides! Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the update Brande and if you need anything else please let us know!
