Please can some one guide me, I am trying to add tab and reading order for screen reader to read my Storyline content page my page. JAWS is not reading my screen I tried downloading a free screenreader that was able to read. Please can anyone share steps or example that lets me see how you enable JAWS to read the screen correctly.
You can determine tab and reading order within Storyline, as the default is to read from the top left through to the bottom right. You will want to make sure you've enabled objects on your screen to be accessible to screen readers as described here.
I see a lot of ever space prior to the text - have you tried removing that to see how it behaves? Also you'll want to use Internet Explorer to run your course as I believe that is the browser JAWS supports.
Hello! I am having a similar problem where the yellow box is reading 'Tab' and does not read the alt text. It's weird that on IE 11 the yellow box doesn't even appear when I press the tab key. I had to use Chrome in order to tab through the screen using JAWS, but it doesn't help if it doesn't read my alt text. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
We've seen some buggy behavior from older versions of JAWS. Can you tell me what version you are using for testing?
My understanding is that you'll need to launch JAWS before you launch Internet Explorer or it won't work as expected, and that only the latest version of IE is supported by JAWS. Are you doing that?
I also understand that JAWS will only read the items that are highlighted and won't read anything ahead.
We've also seen some buggy behavior with text boxes that contain animation. Does this apply to your content?
Let us know if you try these out, or if you're able to provide this information on your course and setup.

We are using JAWS 10 I suppose

yes

Yes, but I add alt text to the animated text also.
I would try to see if you can update/upgrade to that version.
You also mentioned you're using Internet Explorer 9 - that's definitely not the latest version, but it may be specific to your operating system. What version of Windows are you running?
As mentioned, text with animations can be buggy. Try removing the animation to see if that improves the functionality/playback.

Thanks Ashley, Could we control the tab order? If so how?
Hi Rakhi,
Vertical position of the objects controls the tabbing order. Screen shot below explains it more. Thanks,
Hi Rakhi,
Sorry it looks like there was a typo in my post -
You can't control the tab order - by default it's set to read from the top left through to the bottom right.
Sorry for any confusion.
not a problem Ashley, thanks for your and Hasan reponse. One more issue is jaws reader just says tab and does not read my alt text. Any suggestion

Hi Kathy,
Here are a few hints and questions on JAWS:

Thanks!
Ashley sorry for late reply, I actually purposely removed some text before taking a screenshot. I am testing in Internet explorer 9.
Kathy,
Here is my response

Hi Rakhi,
From what I can see, the latest version of JAWS is 15.
I would try to see if you can update/upgrade to that version.

I am having the same issue with IE9 and JAWS 13.
All i hear is 'Tab'... 'Tab'
no animation no nothing.. .i just created a new file.. threw a textbox on.. added alt text.. and nothing.
Hi Helene,
Have you looked into what Christine suggested above to update to the newest version of Jaws or using a newer version of Internet Explorer?
You'll also want to make sure you've enabled the Alt text for the items within your slide as described here.
