JAWS does not recognize a selected radio button - StoryLine 3

Feb 22, 2018

I created a course with multiple choice single select questions. When JAWS screen reader goes over the selected radio button it says "radio button not selected". It also says to change selection use the up and down arrows but that doesn't work either. This happens on IE 11 and Firefox 58.0.2 (64-bit) and also when previewing. Any ideas?

Hi Hameed,

So sorry you're running into these two bugs.

The first bug you referenced (JAWS screen reader goes over the selected radio button it says "radio button not selected") is fixed in Storyline 360, and we're targeting to release the same fix in the next update of Storyline 3. I'll keep you posted on the progress of that.

We're still working on the second bug you mentioned (change selection use the up and down arrows), and I don't have an ETA on a fix for that one quite yet. If anything changes, I'll let you know.

Thanks so much for letting us know these bugs are affecting your courses, and I'm really sorry if it is causing headaches!

Hi Hameed! We just released update 3 for Storyline 3! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where JAWS screen readers would announce selected answer choices as "not checked" in HTML5 output.

Here’s where you can download and install the latest version of Storyline 3. Let me know how you make out!

Hi Steve,

I see you found a workaround in the meantime that you shared here. I wanted to share that link in case anyone else wanted to take a look :)

We do still have an open issue with the selected state of a radio button only being read by JAWS once you navigate back to it, but not at the time of selection.

Is that what you are experiencing as well?
