Jump-To-Slide triggers in Layers behaving unpredictably - A Warning to all!

Aug 27, 2015

Folks

I wanted to share with you all some trouble I'm having.

I've build a really cool onboarding course that has lots of great features to make it as learner friendly as possible.

There are lots of ways though this course

  • We allow people to take it in 'overview' mode and recommend they do that on their first day.
  • They can try to test out of the whole course and we any modules they fail we highlight for them to dive into the learning.
  • They can take the full learning experience as a 'Learning Quest' that gives them content and quizzes for each module, allowing them to build up a 'team' of helpers to make them successful at the company.

However In my final testing I encountered some issues due to my using Jump-To-Slide triggers from within layers (on results slides for modules).

In conversations with support I got told that "the "Jump to Slide" Trigger only works on Slide's Base Layer".

I have never seen any documentation on this, the system is happy to allow you to add these triggers in a layer and they do work SOME OF THE TIME.

However if you ever pass through that slide again then all hell breaks loose and some of the weirdest behavior you will see from Storyline happens.

I reached out to a few folks to see if others had seen this and a few have.

I'm now going to have to spend several hours recoding my way out of this.

My biggest concern however is that for all you folks out there who may have this as a ticking time bomb in their courses.

I'd very much like Articulate to make this work properly. Because if its unpredictable now with buried warnings not to use it, then we can't feel confident about what happen on future updates to the software.
