Jump to URL not working
Jul 23, 2012
Hi guys,
I have a project that contains a few bits of text that link out to various different websites using the "Jump to URL" trigger. Unfortunately, non of these work. I have tried creating the triggers on buttons, images and other objects, to see if it was an issue with the text firing the trigger, but nothing seems to be working.
The odd thing is, when I create a new project and replicate the triggers, they fire exactly as expected. Everything works fine. I'm hoping I'm missing something, and it's not an annoying bug with my project (I've had project-specific bugs before that have been eradicated by creating a new project), but I cant see how it can be anything else.
It's quite a bulky project and I really dont want to have to create a new project and copy and past all my slides from my old one, as this will kill all my slide triggers, resulting in my having to "reconnect" them all. In short, very time consuming!
Has anyone got any ideas how I might fix this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Hi Andy,
Would you mind posting your project here so that I or someone else could take a look at it for you? If that is not an option, then I would need more details, maybe some screenshots of your project or a Screenr showing how everything is setup.
Always Happy to Help,
Adrian
Hi Adrian,
Thanks for replying. Here is a link to download the .story file:

Andrew, it works fine for me (used your google button) must be a browser security issue
Hi Phil,
Which google button are you referring to?
I dont think its a browser security issue, because if I recreate it in a new project, it works fine. It appears to be a bug with the project itself.
One of the early slides has a big blue redirect to google button which works fine I didnt look for any other links.
Did you start this in the beta? I got an error saying created in an early project
Ah i see it (uploaded a different version to the one i thought!).
Couldn't tell you if I started this version in the beta, but it's certainly possible. It's strange that you should get an error when opening the file. Did you activate your beta using a a full license serial number, or download a trial and activate that? I'm wondering if it's a bug when activating beta's as opposed to activating trial versions.
Just publishing now to double check it's not fixed itself in the version I uploaded. It's certainly still broken in the version I'm currently working on!
Interestingly, that version's working for me now!
I can't for the life of me figure out why this version would work, and the other version not.
Digging a little bit deeper, it works when published out to my desktop, but not when its published out to our network drive. Similarly, it doesn't appear to work when uploaded to our web server, so perhaps it is a security issue? But I can't recall us having this problem before.
Thanks for your help Phil, as puzzling as this is, it works, and I guess thats the main thing!
Cannot say I did anything
I'm 99.9% sure this is a network/security issue. So if anyone is having a similar problem, take it off your network drive and test it locally or online and it *should* work.
Phil, your prescence alone fixed it (or at least got me testing it off the network drive)! Either way, thank you for your time!
I have the same issues with my courses using ComplianceWire as our LMS. Everything works great when I direct launch but when I try to launch from the path in the LMS, URLs AND the Exit link to close the course do not work.
Unfortunately, I am NOT using a web server for my content which could be the majority of the problem but I can't get the IT group at my client to understand that I NEED a web server for this content. The creation of e-learning web-based courses is new to them (they called a PPT in slide show format a "CBT" before I started with them!) and I can't get them to understand what I need. I would have thought that someone in the IT Dept would understand my needs but it seems like they're all living back in the '80's or something!
Plus, we're still using IE7! I'm lucky I still have hair because I've been pulling it out over this whole mess for quite a while now! LOL

Stephanie
Hi Andy,
I am glad that you figured things out and that someone like Phil was around to act as a soundboard.
