"Jump to URL" Trigger begins infinite loop of tabs opening in IE 9 and 10

Mar 12, 2015

Hi Everyone I'm completely baffled by what's going on in my SL file.....

Problem: The BofA Training Guide link under the Resources menu opens and continues to open tabs of the url until you finally have to manually end the process in Task Manager. This only happens in IE (tested in 9 and 10).  The course behaves and responds as expected in all other browsers on all platforms. I have not tested it in IE on the Mac side…just my VM.

I’ve tried,

  1. Moving the hotspot off the master slide and onto a content slide
  2. Deleting the trigger and re-adding
  3. Deleting the hotspot and re-adding
  4. Set the BofA link to open google.com instead  (this works fine)
  5. I've also hand coded an html doc, that contains a link to the BofA site and pushed up to my own server in order to test the BofA url’s behavior when in a link from the ”outside." (worked with no issues)

LINKS:

Course with BofA link set to google.com
Course with BofA link set to BofA log in url (be warned…you will have to "end process" manually with task manager to get out of the infinite loop caused by the link.)

I've attached both SL files. Any and all help appreciated...I'm so confused!

Thanks, Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for sharing the files here. There is definitely something with that link and how it does not like Internet Explorer as I tried it in a brand new file with just one slide here. Same thing occurs in IE. It does have some other odd behavior in terms of Chrome where it opens a new window that closes and then it opens the new link in another tab I had open - not the one where I launched the course.

Since it's a financial site and maybe extra security, have you checked to see if there is something associated with that which is causing issues when loading from within another html file?

hi Ashley - thanks for taking a look.....yes - I did try changing the url - I took out the "s" in "https" - and the client also gave me a completely new url that redirects to that secure log in. None of these worked in IE 9 or 10 on a PC. So strange....since this is happening with all of the BofA urls - I'm guessing it is a security and SL clash of some sort? The course was released for final review today - so we ended up making one resource page that links from the course, and then listed the specific resources - including the BofA url - from that "plain" html page outside of the course.   Thanks again for taking a look.....

Hi Nicole,

I honestly haven't seen another link do that before, and it's odd behavior for sure across all browsers, although IE is problematic in terms of how it didn't open at all. It's definitely bizarre that it's just this one link from BofA, so I'm glad you figured out a method that would allow it to work.
