"jump to url" trigger is replacing spaces in file names with %20"

May 23, 2013

I am working on a training module and need to link to some interactive videos housed on my company's intranet, and when I publish the module, the spaces in the file names are being replaced with "%20" which then gives me a 404 error when I click the link.

Can anything be done, other than renaming all the video file names (there are 18 that were made in Camtasia and it would require us to reproduce them under the new name for it to work).

Thank you!

Hi Amy,

That is a very common issue with many URLs, file names, etc. that contain spaces. Your best option would be to remove any spaces, underscores, or any other special characters from the file names.

I know that's not what you're want to do, but in truth, that's probably the one thing keeping them from working properly.

If you have access to the actual files, you shouldn't have to reproduce them, though. I'm not familiar with Camtasia, but I assume you can rename the files they produce the same way you'd rename any other file. Just locate the file, right-click it and choose "Rename".

Good luck!

Thank you--that is what we have started doing.

Unfortunately, simply renaming them isn't working (each link references other files within a subfolder with variations on the name, so renaming the linked file seems to mess up that system somehow). So we are having to re-render the whole video with the new name.
