Is there away to use a variable with the "jump to slide" trigger? I need to be able to jump to a scene from multiple points in a presentation then return to whichever slide jumped to the scene.
The only way I can see to do this is by using the jump to trigger, but I am open to alternatives.
Yes, variables can be used in conjunction with triggers -- including "jump to" triggers. However, I'm not sure if you need a variable for what you're trying to do.
As an exercise, I created a Q&D ("Quick & Dirty") story with 2 scenes. (Attached below.)
From any slide in Scene 1, I set buttons that jump to slides in Scene 2. There's also a "go back" button in the Scene 2 slides to test the "jump back" behavior. Specifically, I was testing to see it it will return to the triggering slide in the previous scene. (It uses a "Jump to previous scene" trigger.) Seems to work as desired.
It seemed to work well, too, for the following use case:
1. Jump from any slide in SCENE 1 to a slide in SCENE 2.
2. Then, in SCENE 2, move forward a few slides (using the Next button) and then choose the "Go Back" button.
Result: Storyline returns to the slide in SCENE 1 where it jumped off from.
One note of interest which I haven't had a chance to explore fully: The built-in Next button in the player didn't seem to give consistent results. Hence the addition of a custom Next button.
This is awesome! It never occurred to me that previous scene would take me back to the same place. I just assumed it would take me back to the beginning of the scene. I am dancing a happy jig at this moment.
You and me both, Brent. I was motivated to test it because there's actually a project to which I could apply this. So, in that regard, I guess have you to thank, as well.
One thing, though. I feel is worth giving this approach a bit of a stress test first, before you fully implement it in a large project. Reason is, that little caveat I put at the end of my post. And, under some conditions -- which I don't have a full handle on at the moment -- the behavior seems inconsistent. (Sometimes the Go Back button seems to treat the current scene as the "last scene.") I'm trying to vet this out a little more and, if seems to be a bug, will submit a bug ticket to the Articulate guys.

Mel,
This is awesome! It never occurred to me that previous scene would take me back to the same place. I just assumed it would take me back to the beginning of the scene. I am dancing a happy jig at this moment.
Thanks!
