Keeping track of Completed Modules
Jul 11, 2014
Hi everyone, I hope you can help my with some insight or suggestions, I am not sure what I should be doing differently.
Problem I am facing:
I have built a course in Storyline and have now distributed it to some colleagues/partners to ask for feedback.
Some feedback has been that the course "doesn't visually mark my modules as Completed even though I have finalized the quiz for the modules several days ago".
General context.
The course contains several modules (each with a module quiz at the end), and a final exam at the end of the course.
How I have approached this:
1. I have several variables tracking each module completion (variable equals True when the Passed screen is shown for the module quiz results).
2. The main screen with the modules selection shows each module as Completed / Not completed based on the value of the variables.
My dilemma is the following: Let's say a person passes 3 modules today, which are marked as Completed on the main selection screen, based on the variables values. If the person exits the course and comes back to continue on the next day, should the LMS remember the values of the variables accordingly from the last log-in?
Maybe there are other ways to approach this modules completion tracking, which I haven't considered yet.
Thank you very much for your advice.
Kind regards,
Alex

Hi Alex and welcome to Heroes!
The LMS should remember where the user left off and keep track of the variables as well. You'll want to ensure you've set it up to "prompt the user to resume" or always resume within the player settings, and typically the LMS will track the log in and cookies instead of relying on the browser.
Hi Ashley, thank you very much for your answer.
Based on it, I did 2 things: activated "always resume within the player settings" (1) and deactivated the "When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie" settings (2).
Now, for the first half of the course, tracking works perfectly, I have tested it out several times.
The problem re-appears when I finish one particular module which is around half-way through the course.
Let's say I take the module quiz, pass it, move to the next module(s). Whenever I exit and come back to the course, the LMS will always take me to the same module quiz and disregard that I had already passed it, together with further progress. I always get taken directly to one of the module quiz questions (4/5 or 5/5).
This quiz is no different from other quizes in the course, programmed&designed in the same manner, just different questions.
Would you have any suggestion here?
Are you using scorm 1.2? looks like you have hit the limit of scorm data. You could test in Scorm cloud to see how much data is being sent. Also could see if the limit can be increased in your LMS.
Hi Alexandru,
As Phil mentioned, you may be meeting the SCORM data limit as detailed here. If you'd like to test in SCORM Cloud, it's a free, industry standard testing method and a great way to help confirm that.
Dear Phil and Ashley,
Thank you very much for your advice, I really appreciate it!
This was indeed the problem. I have made an export for SCORM 2004 v4 instead and everything works fine in the LMS now.
Kind regards,
Alexandru
