Key press triggers on slides with multiple layers

Jun 05, 2022

In Storyline 360, the key press triggers on layers are not responding as expected  when there is more than one layer on the slide.

For example, using the "enter" key press on the base layer it goes to layer 1 as expected. But the "enter" key press trigger on layer 1 does not show layer 2 (nothing happens).

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Maureen,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this snag. Would you mind sharing a copy of your project file here or in private through a support case so we can take a look at what's happening?

I did a quick test using the 'Enter' key to open two consecutive layers and it worked for me, so I'd like to see how my test file looks like compared to yours to understand why the key press triggers are not working as expected for you. I've attached a copy of my test file if you're interested in seeing how I tested the 'Enter' key.

Any idea of the best way to create the following? This is a software sim (for an ancient COBOL system) that has to be created from scratch so PHI and PII can be changed to fake data. There are a ton of objects on both of these steps.

  • Step 1: Learner must F11 without clicking on the slide anywhere [this activates data entry fields]
  • Step 2: Learner must click into a field > Ctrl+V > Ctrl+F11 [performs search on the number; there are no buttons available to perform a search]

I previously had these on 2 separate slides. I'm now trying to combine everything onto the slide before these 2. This causes SL to crash every time.

Thanks for any tips or strategies you can offer!
