Large Screen Recording

Feb 28, 2014

I'm new to Storyline (previously used Captivate) and am working on creating screen recordings. My client needs to record a task that is a series of many steps. We recorded the simulation and inserted using step-by-step so we can add instructions and context. The recording turned into 300 slides (which is fine) BUT it took 90 minutes to import and is 290,000 KB. I'm guessing a file this large will be difficult to work in and edit. It really can't be divided into sub-tasks when watched by the user. Suggestions?

Hi Rose and welcome to Heroes!

I've seen a lot of users discuss if there is a max file size or max slide number - and there is no definitive answer as it'll depend on whats in your Storyline course, and the amount of memory and space on your local computer. Some suggestions to keep in mind while working on your project to prevent odd behavior include:

Work on all local project files, and keep your file path well below the 260 character limit as described here.

Also, you may want to make a back up copy of your course, and set up some type of back up method since Storyline doesn't automatically save

If you need to share files as part of a collaborative environment, please follow this recommended workflow.

And, if you need anything else please feel free to let us know!
